61F Inbound , Craig St. , Oakland.
A woman in her 40s gets on the bus, which is very crowded:
Woman: WATCH OUT, I’m movin’ to the back!
[Woman starts forcefully shoving people to get to the back of the bus, muttering all the way]
—Damn people must like to be squished like sardines. I can’t believe this. Idiots. Always crowd the front of the bus. People should learn to move to the back.
[Woman gets to back of bus, and starts shouting at the people in the front]
—Yinz should come back here, it’s nice and empty! There’s a seat too! Start moving back, people! Come on!

Amen “Brenda”!!!
I would love to hear the inner monologue of the people who won’t move to the back. I feel like it must go something like: “ouch, watch that backpack! ….*dead air*…. ouch! my toe!”

No kidding. People always clot the front of the bus to be close to the door. This morning on the 61C, some dopey-looking Chinaman stood smack in the middle of the bus with the back isle empty and people jammed in the front like bad cholesterol. Naturally, he got off at CMU, so perhaps someone should have told him to move back in binary code. The worst is when a seat opens up and some slack-jawed white man continues to stand to look chivalrous. Sit your dumb ass down!

I don’t think anyone needs to be complaining about chivalry.
Also, some people like to stand after eight hours on their ass at work.

It starts with one or two people, and then no one else wants to squeeze past them. Next thing you know, the people getting on can’t even tell if there’s room in the back.

Support global warming, get a car and stop having to complain.
Seriously “chinaman”? Asian buddy, Asian.

Also, Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.

We’re not talking about a guy who built the fucking railroads here. This is a guy [who won’t move to the back of the bus].

Asian-American? Am I supposed to check ID for every Asian I see? How do I know they’re an American citizen?

Dude (with some license) = funny.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
How do you know he was Chinese?

Shoot, was that woman ME?! I’m only in my 30s!!! Just kidding, I’m practically never inbound on any 61.
But people are such morons. So true, always a couple people who are too socially awkward (read: bad manners) to look behind them and STEP BACK. Then everybody else is jammed up. In a couple more stops and the driver’s gonna tell you morons to get back there anyhow, MIGHT AS WELL DO IT FROM THE START.
What I do, if I can SEE there’s space back there, is say, real loud and with obnoxious “good citizen” cheerfulness, “Excuse me! I’m going to go stand near the back, where there’s plenty of room!”
