Chinese Poetry Class, Cathedral of Learning, Pitt Campus:
Asian Professor: Many interpretations are acceptable. Remember, there is more than one way to slice a cat.
[Class giggles.]
Asian Professor: Are you laughing because the poem is so romantic?
Girl #1: No, it’s just that you said, “There’s more than one way to slice a
cat,” when it’s really “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.”
Girl #2: Yeah, in America we don’t eat cats.
[shocked silence]

I would have died laughing!!! that was fantastic
A+
Ah, the horrifying moment when you realize that your witty outburst was much funnier when your id came up with it. I know it well.
haha! AWESOME!
It is awesome. Funny on so many levels!
“Yeah, in America we don’t eat cats.”
So un-PC, and yet so funny.
If the girl meant it as a racial attack then that kind of sucks… but still, “slice a cat”… the professor handed that one to her.
* She should have just gone with “There’s more than one way to eat a Reese’s.” We /do/ eat those in America.
I wish I’d been there for this one.
In text, I didn’t interpret her comment as either a joke or an insult. Just a further explication of the correction from someone ignorant (in the literal sense).
I really want to know what happened next.
