Jitters, Shadyside:
Slim Woman: [leaning over the counter] Just a small one with skim milk.
Barista: How much do you weigh? 120? You don’t need skim.
Slim Woman: Okay, I’ll go with 2% —Wait, can I have a milkshake?

Grrrr. How irritating. Think if the woman was fat it would be funny for her to say, “A milkshake? How much do you weigh, ’bout 250? You don’t need a milkshake!”

Actually, I think it’s bullshit too.

relax. i’m sure it was said as a friendly complement for the sake of making conversation. if the girl had been 90 lbs and anorexic the comment never would have been made. just like if she had been 250 lbs your comment never would have been made. lighten up.

The part that struck me was not that the server would make such a comment, but that the customer would be so easily swayed to go for the decadence. In fact she jumped at the chance to fall off the low-fat bandwagon with almost no prompting. Be honest. Can’t we all relate, just a little?
